Diet pills or prescription weight loss drugs are prescribed for patients diagnosed with serious obesity problems and whose weight loss progress can be monitored by their physician.  A clinical review of diet pills is done to prove their efficiency for losing weight, as well as to observe potential side effects and health risks. You can jumpstart your weight loss program by taking diet pill supplements, but you are strictly recommended to adhere to a consulting physician’s prescription on the suggested diet pill.

How it works
Most of the diet pills which act as appetite suppressants work by stimulating the hypothalamus gland and affecting certain neurotransmitters in the brain like – noradrenalin, catecholamine or serotonin to curb appetite and help people reduce their feeling of hunger, thereby initiating weight loss.

But people in their desperation to lose weight forget that weight loss do not occur overnight. It requires patience and a strong will power to stick to diet plans and exercise schedules too. Though the power of diet pills cannot substitute your will power, but it definitely can boost your morale and help in overcoming your weight loss desperation. But on any health grounds, avoid unwanted side effects and complications by having your medication schedule prescribed and recommended by an expert guidance.

Precautions
There are different diet pills available in the market but one should administer it only after analyzing the possible side effects of diet pills and the probabilities of drug interaction with regard to one’s metabolism. They have to be regulated and approved by FDA (Food and Drug Administration). Some common prescription medicines like Phentermine, Adipex-P and Didrex to name a few are recommended appetite-suppressants, used in the treatment of obesity.

However, precautions need to be taken before using diet pills so as to suit your metabolism. Women suffering from diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, glaucoma, thyroid problems, anxiety disorders, etc. and mainly pregnant woman and lactating mothers should refrain from using diet pills. It has been found that certain weight loss medications cause birth defects when taken in high doses. Moreover, diethylpropion and benzphetamine has chances of being transfused into breast milk.

But the most important tip in using diet pills is to 'Avoid Mixing' i.e. to be careful of drug interaction.  Diet pills cause drug interaction with a number of drugs especially Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) like phenelzine (Nardil), tranylcypromine (Parnate), and isocarboxazid (Marplan); which are basically approved for the treatment of depression. Moreover, they are also said to have the potential to interact with each other, with certain foods, with certain medical conditions or even some with sunlight.
